Although I believe this topic would make a fantastic National Honor Society senior project, it is not a plan in progress and needs may be exaggerated. The specific example is designed to provide a real-world feel for the ENGL1020 proposal unit that goes beyond essay writing to explore a simplistic business plan, journalism, social media, and other smaller styles of writing.
Budgets are a realistic factor in all proposals -- even dream proposals. The budget should be realistic because it will be used to apply for grants with non-profit proposals (swimming pools, parks, schools, service projects, youth sports camps, etc.) and small business loans for business proposals. While it's an important factor, it is difficult to do with dream proposals so an honest best attempt is the focus. Make sure you include what is called "In-Kind" (material and volunteer hours that are donated). Budgets are important in a writing class because grants and small business loans needed for increasing capital all involve writing strategies. For this section, you will create a budget and locate 3 grants or small business loans that your proposal qualify to apply for. You do not have to actually complete the application, but you should know what would be involved in the full process.
NHS students will do several fundraisers to help provide needed material such as bake sales at home games, a quarter war, and "Buck Rules" where students pay a dollar to break a school dress code rule. Unfortunately, the third phase will require more funds than a youth organization would be able to raise. To achieve the ultimate goal, we will apply for grants.
Custer County Foundation Grants
The CCF focuses on improving life in Custer County, Nebraska. They tend to support projects that the youth develop because it helps improve communities while building leadership.
Youth Service Grant
The playground revitalization project would be eligible for this grant because the proposal was suggested as a senior service project organized by the National Honor Society students. The grant recognizes programs that benefit schools and inspires youth service.
Recycling Grant from Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy
The playground revitalization project would be eligible for this grant during stage 3 because the mulch is made out of recycled tires. There is a good chance of receiving 50% of the costs of the mulch and boarder based on the city receiving similar funding when they used this grant on the city park.
