Although I believe this topic would make a fantastic National Honor Society senior project, it is not a plan in progress and needs may be exaggerated. The specific example is designed to provide a real-world feel for the ENGL1020 proposal unit that goes beyond essay writing to explore a simplistic business plan, journalism, social media, and other smaller styles of writing.
One Proposal adjusted for Multiple Audiences
The purpose of a business proposal portfolio involves having the pieces that can be adapted for multiple audiences. It is vital to realize that the intended audience determines which parts of the proposal the presentation should feature. For examples, adults will need more logical evidence to accept a proposal while youth often focus on the emotional reasoning. The proposal will look different going before a city board for approval than before a parents committee to educate about the opportunity or a group of potential investors seeking financial backing. The stage of the proposal presentation will also factor into what items should be featured. For example, are you early in the proposal period where you are trying to build support or towards the end where you are sharing the success of the project. For your final exam, you will share your proposal to three different audiences. You get to choose the audience and the stage of the proposal, but must include:
(I am only creating one example even though you need three. The basic concept is the same and I want you to be able to demonstrate that you understand the concept of audience impacting the information you stress.)
Audience 1: Elementary Students Input on Design of Cement Playground
Sharing my portfolio with elementary students during the planning stage of the proposal will ensure the distinct play areas throughout the cement section of the school playground will appeal to students. The presentation will also create ownership in the final project and increase community support as students share the proposal with their parents.
